I don't begrudge Steve Martin his fame, but I don't quite see how he fully qualifies as a recipient of 2015's American Film Institute Award. His filmography is rather checkered to say the least, with some standout films, but it also seems a byproduct of his career as author, musician, juggler, playwright etc. Sort of like an American Peter Ustinov (who I believe never juggled). I'm sure there are ten other working actors with blisteringly more deserving credits--heck, I'd even prefer Bruce Dern. Thing is, Steve Martin by definiton I simply don't think of as an actor.
Am I the lone dissenter here?
