I was at a supermarket the other day and a cashier asked me, "senior discount?" Never happened before. I said I wasn't a senior, but then I asked what age was intended. "55" said the cashier (another senior). Busted! I'm 55 3/4. And I was even wearing my hat. The cashier helpfully added, "I just gave it a shot." She also said several people have been offended by the question (this senior discount idea seems to be a new policy); I can understand that, especially if one invests in creating the illusion of looking younger and then having it dashed. I have no business with such vanity, being an aging potato head, but it was still startling to have this finally happen. Up until age 32 I was still being asked my I.D. Seems like yesterday!
The senior world is now real to me. Anyone else get called on this lately?
