What are the sources for the best quality DVDs of Bela's serials (in the case of S.O.S. COAST GUARD, I'm assuming the Serial Squadron)? Thanks.

I've not seen Serial Squadrons SOS COAST GAURD, i already have the Roan and that's good enough for me.
VCI's PHANTOM CREEPS is the best version so far. Though i've been waiting for Serial Squadron to release their version for what seems like forever.
RETURN OF CHANDU is a matter of taste. Some like the Grapevine, but i think it's a bit dark. I prefer Sinister Cinema's.
I also have SinCin's SHADOW OF CHINATOWN and WHISPERING SHADOW. Neither are pristine, but i don't think there's anything better around.

Apparently it's been relegated to the back burner for now. It's supposed to be a nice print, but i wonder if perhaps it's no better than VCI's, and maybe that's why they haven't bothered to release it. I'll definitely pick it up if they do, it's my favorite of Lugosi's serials.

An academic question, I suppose.
Years back someone made me a dub of SOS COASTGUARD that looked very good but was certainly subject to speed-up in the transfer. Anyone know which one this was?
(The reason it's academic is that I've since gotten SOS on Alpha & it looks fine to me. I'm not thinking of getting another.)

I heard VCI's THE PHANTOM CREEPS is the best available, but I took a look at VCI's website and didn't see it listed. Does anyone know if it is still available? On a different subject while I'm at it, a long time ago I heard VCI was going to upgrade their DICK TRACY print, has anyone heard anything about that?

Thanks for the suggestions. I purchased VCI's THE PHANTOM CREEPS through Amazon. Saw a few splices, in the beginning of chapter one, but otherwise is the best print I have seen of it.;

Going back to the beginning of this thread, a couple asked about a Squadron release of THE PHANTOM CREEPS. What I heard a couple of years ago was Lenny Kohl (Lenbuster) was supposed to do a commentary track and contribute a lot of photos and other extras, but he seems to have disappeared from all boards. What a shame because he is one of the most fun people in fandom. Lenny, if you read this at least say hello.

Since Mr. Len got married & sired a progeny, he's been almost totally MIA. I can imagine that becoming a parent for the 1st time in middle-age must be quite a shock to the system!!!.

Back in 1992 at the age of 45, Ma and I went to Russia and adopted a baby boy. Because you could never be certain of the outcome, and we didn't want our families to worry that we were in Russia, we didn't let anyone know what was happening, we just told them we were taking a trip to Europe. In fact today is the anniversary of us leaving on the trip. We were there for a little over two weeks, and returned home on Nov 29th. We had our Thanksgiving dinner three days late, so I picked up my in-laws and took them over to my mother's place for dinner, then I returned home to pick up my wife and son. I went in first, told our parents to close their eyes, Ma walked in carrying him, and I said "Open your eyes." They just stood there in shock, not saying a word.

Amazing thing is there was absolutely no adjustment period, the next day it was like he was always with us. When he became a teenager his appearance started to change, and I have had several total strangers tell me my son looks just like me, that he is my twin.

Harpo Marx used to say his three adopted children were just dropped off at the wrong houses, but luckily they found them and brought them to the right home. I think that is a lovely way to view it.

Mr. Len didn't even show up at Monster Bash this year... and he was married there!
