I don't know how well known Tommy Cooper was/is in America, but I have tonight witnessed his death again. In April 1984 comedian Cooper collapsed and died on stage in front of millions of British television viewers on a live variety show. For the very first time since that night the footage has now turned up on You Tube. I had seen this originally on the night in question, and like the theatre audience thought it was part of his act - the audience (or at least part of the audienct) laughts at his slow collapse. Watching it for the first time in 25 years it is an experience that gets more spooky with each viewing (the clip lasts just 37 seconds) but although it is morbidly fascinating it is still haunting to see.
