Big Lots again | ||

Today at Big Lots i fond some MillCreek 20 packs for $6. If you've already got the 50 packs there's nothing new, but i did get a set with ZORROS
FIGHTING LEGION, ZORRO RIDES AGAIN & ZORROS BLACK WHIP. I already had these, but it also has Republics THE BOLD CABALLERO (1936) so i figured i would take
a look. If you don't already have these serials this is ridiculously cheap.

Amazon.com has lowered the original prices on DR. WHO DVDs by about half. I don't know how long ago the price drop happened or why it happened, but my
husband noticed it this week and ordered some episode arcs that we'd previously recorded off the TV. These DVDs had been expensive by our standards, but
they're excellent, often with optional onscreen production notes and unusually good commentary tracks by people originally involved in the productions
(principal actors, producers, writers, etc.).

BTW Sinister Cinema is now selling dvds through Amazon.com. Not the marketplace but Amazon itself.

So have the DR WHO soundtrack CDs. BBC pricing, I guess. |

Circuit City is closing many of its stores around the country. Here in Louisville they currently offer 20% off DVDs and CDs.

DeepDiscount.com is having a 25% off sale on all of their dvd's (which are generally similar in price to Amazon.com) If you enter discount code SUPERSALE,
the 25% will be taken off when you checkout. There is no shipping charge. In addition, "Reservation Rewards" will mail you a check for $10.00 if you
email them your Deep Discount sales receipt. I placed an order and then received an additional $15.00 check offer from Reservation Rewards. This is a very good
deal. Ends Monday.
I think that the 25% offer also includes cd's.

Interesting. I went to the site and built up a Shopping Cart.
However, almost everything that I felt I might want popped up "Not in stock, but we'll get it for you as soon as we can." They must be cutting back on inventory. |

Towards the end of the sale, they tend to run low on a lot if things. But they still honor the sale price on out of stock items.

Aha! That explains why these DVDs suddenly started showing up at flea markets for $4 a pop. |

While on vacation stopped in at a Music For A Song store. Usually they are pretty much out of my price range but they had some bargains comparable to online
shopping. Most of the Midnight Movies double features were in stock at $4.99. Bought Tomb Of Ligeia/Evening With Poe and
Invisible Invaders/Journey To The Seventh Planet. Also picked up a used Hawaii Five-0 season five box for $13.

Amazon.com is having a big sale on selected Criterion titles. These include Fritz Lang's THE TESTAMENT OF DR. MABUSE, the Dieterle version of THREEPENNY
OPERA (1931) and some other classics of particular interest to haunters of Scarlet Street. See the front page of the amazon.com site.
Also, Amazon sells calendars. I just ordered "Midnight Movies," published by MGM, featuring lurid poster-art from vintage "B" monster movies and the like. |

Spotted those at ours, too, today. Thanks goodness I can't afford them just now (and the CC cards are carrying too high a balance) or I'd have made a right piggy of myself. Unfortunately they'd already sold out of the James Bond titles ... I was hoping to score ON HER MAJESTY'S SECRET SERVICE. |

I think you mean the Pabst version. In 1931 Dieterle was already in Hollywood (& making his best film: THE LAST FLIGHT). |

It's an easy mistake to make unless you keep in mind that Dieterle never had a beer named after him.

Now I'm imagining "Oh Moon in Alabama" being sung as an in-film product promotion. Just substitute "lager" for "whiskey" in
the translation and hoist those bottles in unison on "Oh you know why!"
