Scary sets

Warner Home Video continues to release an ever-growing number of classic films and collector's sets in a variety of genres, and horror is no exception. Among the releases on the slate from the studio this fall are two collections of classic scary films. Movies starring horror film greats Boris Karloff and Bela Lugosi will be packaged in a two-disc set under the name Karloff & Lugosi Horror Classics. The individual titles are The Walking Dead, Frankenstein 1970, You'll Find Out and Zombies On Broadway.

And among the final releases in the Turner Classic Movies series, which consists of DVD collections that are promoted on the TCM network, is a four-film set of Alfred Hitchcock films.
TCM Greatest Classic Films Collection: Hitchcock Thrillers features four titles from the master: Suspicion, Strangers On a Train, I Confess and The Wrong Man. Warner has been releasing the four-film sets in four waves throughout the year beginning in February. The final wave is slated for November. -C.S.

A remake of the 1947 John Wayne classic, Angel and the Badman stars Lou Diamond Phillips (Che, Lone Rider, Young Guns I and II) as Quirt Evans, a notorious gunfighter who - critically wounded when a deal with fellow outlaws goes bad - takes shelter with a docile Quaker family.

WHV Adds Seven To Oct. 6 Package
Warner Home Video's deep catalog program, Warner Archives, has
added seven new titles to the studio's Oct. 6 release package.

Of particular interest is the six-disc set titled
The Joe McDoakes Collection (1942 - 1956) -
containing all 63 comedy short films directed by Richard L. Bare and starring George O'Hanlon (best known as the voice of
George Jetson) as everyman Joe McDoakes.

The series was nominated for three Oscars - Best Short Subject in 1948, So You Want to Be in Pictures;
1949, So You Want to Be on the Radio and in 1950, So You Think You're Not Guilty.

Also making the quick trip to DVD on Oct. 6 are two Gene Roddenberry-inspired sci-fi MOWs from the mid-70s -
