They are in the same sense that Ken Russell is my favorite filmmaker, which is to say the ones who have pleased me the most consistently over a period of years. There are other great bands with great albums and songs and they are certainly high on my list -- The Who (for TOMMY, QUADROPHENIA and THE WHO BY NUMBERS), Bowie (everything from HUNKY DORY thru DIAMOND DOGS), Jethro Tull (AQUALUNG, HEAVY HORSES, SONGS FROM THE WOOD, TOO OLD TO ROCK 'N' ROLL, TOO YOUNG TO DIE, STORMWATCH), The Move (SHAZAM and MESSAGE FROM THE COUNTRY), the Bonzo Dog Band (really pretty much everything, but the output is fairly small), the Kinks (VILLAGE GREEN PRESERVATION SOCIETY, ARTHUR, EVERYBODY'S IN SHOWBIZ), Leo Sayer (SILVERBIRD and JUST A BOY), Alice Cooper (BILLION DOLLAR BABIES, WELCOME TO MY NIGHTMARE, ALICE COOPER GOES TO HELL), Oingo Boingo (ONLY A LAD and BOINGO [the second one]), and on and on. But these and others also have albums I don't like or albums with only one or two songs. The closest I get to not liking a Beatle album is BEATLES '65. The only songs I can think of by them that I actually dislike are "Blackbird," "Rocky Raccoon," and "Yer Blues." There are probably some I'm forgetting, but those are what comes to mind.

Actually, I meant BEATLES FOR SALE -- my brain tends to default to titles I grew up with. And, no, I don't like it better. Most of it leaves me cold and I'm not that keen on covers of earlier rock songs that didn't do all that much for me to start with. I do think "Mr. Moonlight" is hysterical, though.
