OK, so he never came to be famous in the accepted sense of the term, but I suspect that most people with a taste for British cinema of the 50s, 60s and 70s are familiar with the name 'Anton Diffring.' His many credits include Terence Fisher's THE MAN WHO COULD CHEAT DEATH (1958, as the titular character), CIRCUS OF HORRORS (1959, his definitive mad scientist role), WHERE EAGLES DARE (1967), Riccardo Freda's IGUANA WITH THE TONGUE OF FIRE (1971), and Jess Franco's FACELESS (198 . If I recall correctly, he was born in 1918 and died in '88. Does anybody know anything of his personal life? Any thoughts on his qualities as a thespian?
