This is a handsome volume with informative introduction nicely illustrated with rare stills and matches the high standard set by Dover, Beltham House, Black Coat Press, and Ramble House with thier Fantomas publications of recent years. While there are no further titles yet scheduled, Black Coat Press still has the first English translation of THE END OF FANTOMAS in the works so there is more of everyone's favorite Gallic anarchist yet to come. Christophe Gans (who directed "The Brotherhood of the Wolf") has signed to direct the $65 million production, FANTOMAS scripted by the director with David Martinez. This is not an adaptation of one of the 43 original novels, but is instead a new story pitting the villainous Fantomas against another villain (an an original character). Shooting is expected to begin later this year for 2010 release. Hopefully this sparks further Fantomas reprints and spurs sales of the existing books. "Never expect much from your fellow man. (To an extent he was the forerunner of The Joker & the way he's depicted in the most recent Batman film.) Fantomas is a total psychopath who gets his jollies by fucking with society. He's not looking for monetary gain from his actions or political change, he just gets off on creating chaos by doing things like putting acid in the perfume bottles of a major department store. What could be worse? Still, I'm on board for whatever Gans offers - though I reserve the right not to like it. But based on BROTHERHOOD OF THE WOLF, I probably will. The Mysterious Mr. Long
