For one thing, Moriarty has to be a credible physical threat to Holmes. The fight to the death at the Falls. And Ritchie would probably go for someone ten to fifteen years older than Downey, at the oldest. My idea of Bill Nighy is probably a bit on the old side. The makeup people could help him look credibly ageless. I hadn't thought of him for Moriarty, but the more I think about it -- good idea! This might get me laughed at, but I wouldn't mind seeing Jason Statham in the part, especially if they have any plans for Holmes and Moriarty to duke it out!

Doesn't sound like they're going to hit that June start date. http://scifiwire.com/2010...we-know-and-you-need.php Moriarty is confirmed as the villain (as if that's a surprise) and it sounds as if Irene will be back, but in a reduced role (to which I can only say 'thank goodness!')

I'd buy him as a physical match for Holmes and after his performance as Noah Cross in THERE WILL BE BLOOD and Uncle Pennybags in GANGS OF NEW YORK, he's established himself as one of todays more sinister screen presences. Plus, he's so fun to watch on screen! He almost single-handedly made NINE enjoyable through scenes of him skulking along corridors in dark glasses and nice italian suits.
