that traces the early path of a man destined to make history and be a catalyst for global change, Becoming Barack: Evolution of a Leader, will be available as a special collector's DVD August 11 from Little Dizzy Home Video.

Few presidents have been so celebrated by the people. How did Barack Obama's early experiences inspire him to develop principles and a philosophy that would take him to the presidency? What was he really like in his formative years? What was his inspiration for hope and change? What solidified his ideals and principles to launch him on such a remarkable and historic journey?

Becoming Barack: Evolution of a Leader features footage from three of the earliest known recorded interviews with the new president, including never-before-seen footage:

•A 12-minute "lost" interview - the centerpiece of the documentary - from 1993 by an aspiring inner-city documentary producer in Chicago, which never aired and was only recently discovered by Stuart A. Goldman, executive producer of this program.

•A 1990 clip from a news interview after he was elected president of the Harvard Law Review.

•A 1986 WMAQ-Chicago news story about Obama's earliest success as a community activist, which has not aired since its original local broadcast 23 years ago.

• Also includes excerpts from Obama's audiobook reading of his book Dreams of My Father.

In the "lost" interview - which will be seen for the first time ever in this documentary - Obama was just 32-years-old, two years out of law school and championing the needs of some of Chicago's inner-city residents, a professor teaching constitutional law at the University of Chicago, a fervent community organizer and a newlywed who had not yet contemplated running for public office. "… I might think about it, but that time is certainly in the future," says Obama. Three years later, in 1996, he was elected to the Illinois State Senate.

The documentary also features rare personal photos; interviews with family and a range of Chicago-area leaders in business and in grassroots community organizing who knew Obama intimately during his formative years and share personal memories and anecdotes; and historic photos and video footage of "Obama's Chicago" in the mid '80s through early '90s.

Becoming Barack: Evolution of a Leader reveals an unseen perspective of our new president at a time when he was finding his way-forming the ideals and principles that would guide him on an historic path. Even at this early time in his life, a vision of hope shines brightly … a desire to make this country a better place for all people. In the process, he discovers himself as well.

In the "lost" interview, Obama covers a range of topics of great personal passion with a striking similarity to presidential campaign speeches given 15 years later-ideals of a more equitable democracy and a better life for Americans, especially the under-privileged. He reflects on how his work as a community organizer "taught (him) about the problems and possibilities in the Black community." And he analyzes the political process and how change actually takes place. The foundation of Obama's philosophy and guiding principles comes into focus, showing a true "thinker" who strives to understand the issues of great importance to "everyday people." He is forming ideals and concepts … a vision of hope that will one day lead him to the presidency.

Included are interviews with Auma Obama, the president's African half-sister who introduced him to his African roots; Jerry Kellman, founder of Chicago's Developing Communities Project, who gave Obama his first community organizing job; Johnnie Owens, president of the Developing Communities Project; Loretta Augustine-Herron, who worked with Obama on the Developing Communities Project at Altgeld Gardens; Linda Randle, organizer at Ida B. Wells housing project, who formed a coalition with Obama to deal with asbestos removal; Mike Kruglik, director of Metro Equity's Gamaliel Foundation, who helped nurture Obama's skills on Chicago's south side in the '80s; Rev./Dr. Alvin Love, pastor of Lilydale First Baptist Church and one of many ministers that Obama worked with in the community; Terri Gardner, formerly president of Brainstorm Communications, which helped launch the Project Vote! Campaign for Obama; Edward Gardner, founder of Soft Sheen Products, an African-American political activist and the primary financial backer of Project Vote!; Melody Spann-Cooper, president and general manager of WVON-AM, Chicago's only African-American owned and operated radio station, who Obama contacted for help during Project Vote!; Judson H. Miner, who hired Obama out of law school at Miner, Barnhill & Galland; Toni Preckwinkle, Chicago Alderwoman, Ward 4; and Douglas Baird, dean of the University of Chicago Law School in the '90s, who recruited Obama to teach.
