This question was asked on another, and as I didn't have an answer for it, I thought I'd ask it here. And I guess it depends on how you define the word "happy," but among all the homosexual characters in all of Ken's films, has there ever been one that was truly happy with his homosexuality?
Well, I think you can say that Rupert Birkin is not unhappy with his bisexuality. There's no sign that Corky is unhappy in SAVAGE MESSIAH. There's dialogue in SAVAGE MESSIAH that suggests a hint of unrepentant gayness in Gaudier-Brzeska himself. The two girls in THE BOY FRIEND seem okay with theirs. I don't think one can actually claim that the problems faced by Shelley and Byron in GOTHIC are grounded in being unhappy with homosexuality, nor would I say that Wilde is unhappy with his in SALOME, though the circumstances are less than desirable. Really, the only "tortured" homosexual I can think of is Tchaikovsky and that's pretty much inescapable.
