As some of you may know, "North By Northwest" was released on Blu-Ray yesterday (Nov. 3). I simply couldn't resist buying it on my way to
work today. I intend to watch it tonight when I get home. It's a 50th Anniversary Special Edition, packed with hours of special features. I previously had
the single disc edition dvd of this film, with few special features. Since it's one of my favorite movies, I thought it worthwhile to purchase this new
edition on Blu-Ray....

I'm just wondering what are everyone's favorite films of Hitchock's British period?

During this period (1922-1939), Hitch was still experimenting and finding his "style", leading to a few misfires. Some of the films of that era are
definitely sub-par, although almost all of them still have some interesting aspects. However, Hitch also created a few masterpieces during this era. My
favorite movies of Hitch's British days are "The Lady Vanishes"...

I was just thinking about two films that Hitchcock made, which are plotted as modern reinterpretations of classic fairy tales.

REBECCA is Hitch's (and author Daphne Du Maurier's) retelling of the classic "Cinderella" story, turning it into a dark, gothic tale. In
fact, the second Mrs. De Winter is even referred to as "Cinderella" by the George Sanders character about halfway through the movie.

There didn't seem to be a proper thread for this masterpiece, so I thought I'd start one.

This is one of my very favorite Hitchcock films. Such an enthralling and suspenseful story. Joseph Cotten and Theresa Wright give masterful performances. As
you're watching this movie, you find yourself unable to look away. Its charm, drama and suspense are magnetic. And its glorious black-and-white actually
adds greatly to the mysterious, creepy atmosphere. I don't think it...

Youtube has posted this somewhat risque sound test by Hitchcock and star Anny Ondra. Look how carefully Hitch is trying to pronounce his words. Miss Ondra is
clear and charming as she speaks conversationally in her accented English.
