I watched my old vhs copy last night. This movie goes in a direction i wish Argento had explored more often. Jennifer Connelly was only, hm, fifteen or so when she made this and plays her Carrie-like part nicely. She has an affinity for insects. Has anyone seen this? I'm sorry to report that I haven't read a single positive word about the long delayed last film in Argento's trilogy that began with Suspiria back in ? 1977.

I recently saw this for the first time. A good story and some decent atmosphere, but at 94 minutes it moves like molasses. Barbara Steele is completely upstaged by the male lead who steals the show with his sexy/sleazy persona. Some of it doesn't make sense, but the dubbed version may have been cut (hard to believe it could be longer than 94 minutes!). The supporting players (especially the priest and the Sondergaard-ish maidservant) are well cast. The spooky music was relentless.

Maybe the discussion is hidden somewhere. Last week, after discussing, Franju's documentary BLOOD OF BEASTS wid a friend, I borrowed the Criterion dvd of EYES WITHOUT A FACE. I'd never seen the feature but knew it had a good reputation despite it's familiar story (maybe this was the paPA of face transplant films?). I watched. cringed a bit and at the finale, was oddly...eh...whelmed.

By the way, I didn't have the stomach for BLOOD after the introduction to the "tools."...

I find it hard to believe that no one else had already started a thread on SUSPIRIA. I love it. Every second of it. Partly, because it brings back some rather strange memories for me, and partly, because it was unlike anything else I had seen up to September, 1977. It's rather a masterpiece of style over substance; and, it is never, ever dull! Anyone else like it?

Does anyone have access to the DVD version of ZOMBI 3 issued in the US by Shriek Show? I only ask because there's a long-standing mystery concerning the film's status as a '3-D' production. It's long been listed as a dimensional movie in various sources, and I'm told there are scenes in the film which suggest some kind of 3-D photography, but no evidence has been forthcoming to support the notion one way or another.

I couldn't find any posts dedicated solely to this director, so hopefully this isn't a repeat. I'm curious to know what other people think of Martino and his place in the history of Italian horror films. I quite enjoyed All the Colors of the Dark, and have a soft spot for his Spaghetti Western, Mannaja - A Man Called Blade. This being said, I recently watched an advanced release copy of the upcoming DVD release of his first film, The Strange Vice of Mrs. Wardh, and while it has its highlights...

I'm looking for some info on is Fantomas, a 1932 French old dark house film directed by Paul Fejos. Has anyone seen this??? I saw the title in the Sinister catalogue, but I believe there are no subtitles.

Fejos was a major talent from that time. I've seen Lonesome and The Last Performance and both are excellent. Lonesome is one of the very best silent films.

Old and New School Hong Kong Horror

Rather than lumping Chinese and Japanese horror movies together, I figured we needed a separate thread for old school horrors from Hong Kong and the island's more recent fright flicks and Ring ripoffs.

Celestial Pictures is really doing a great job releasing widescreen transfers of films from the Shaw Brothers catalogue. Black Magic, Oily Monster, The Spiritual BoxerThe Seduction of Amy, dubbed into English, probably an early 80's release for the home video market.

The source for my copy must have been extremely old video tape, the sound is barely audible and the picture, while not too muddy, is extremely faded, nearly impossible to see in some spots.

Would anyone know of a source for a quality copy of the film? Any language...
